Transfers

With ever increasing ways to find guns online and elsewhere, gun transfers are becoming more common. Federal law dictates that gun dealers cant sell handguns to people in other states, and that customers have to come to the dealer's place of business to purchase long guns. Often, this isn't practical for people. The way to transfer firearms across state lines, or long distances within the same state is to simply have a dealer transfer to another dealer. This is perfectly legal and quite common.

Most of the time, when an individual tries to ship a firearm, the fees charged by the common carrier (UPS, etc) are exhorbitant. Gun dealers can ship through he USPS for about 25.00, resulting in the shipping costs and transfer fees being about half to two-thirds the cost of a person trying to ship himself. Plus, gun dealers know all of the various legal ramifications of moving firearms around the country. The transfer fee is a small price to pay to avoid running into any federal legal issues.
